Civilization and existence are always opposed

Civilization and existence are two sides of the same coin, and these two opposite words are often confused by us.

Many times, we will feel that civilization and survival is mutual, but to know, civilization is not equal to survival, survival is not equal to civilization.

I remember a clip from Beijing Folding:

One person trapped in a tall building has to climb to another to get out. But there was a window on the roof of the building, and as long as he climbed up, he could get out. But if he wanted to climb another building he had to climb the wall by the window.

I think this is the antithesis of civilization and survival.

Why do we set civilization against survival?

Because in the course of human development, civilization and survival are often mutually reinforcing or mutually exclusive.

When we talk about survival, we usually think of it as a “material” need.

Benefit of civilization and harm of existence

We can think about this question: If a person is in danger, how will that person solve the problem? Would he want to ask the police or the army for help? He may want to ask friends and colleagues for help. This is what we call “civilization”.

In this case, people only focus on their own interests and ignore other “harm”, so often in the face of difficulties, will choose to give up looking for others to help. But that doesn’t mean we can abandon civilization.

I think civilization is also phased: if people want a better life, then they need to develop a more mature system of civilization. And if people in a society want to be able to solve the problem through violence, then it can be said that there is no civilization in this society.

Therefore, we can not just see the “benefits” and ignore the “harm”, this is wrong. If we only see the “harm” and ignore the “benefits”, then we are likely to go to the other extreme.

Civilization and existence are always opposites

In “Beijing folds”, the first person, they take “survival” as the priority goal. And the second kind of people, they aim at “civilization”. In their view, civilization can be realized only when survival is guaranteed.

However, in the real world, when survival can not be guaranteed, we often find that “civilization” and “survival” are often opposite.

For example: a person does not want to go to work, he just need to have a “letter of resignation” can not go to work. However, such people are in reality a minority, most people have to work to maintain their lives.

Although most of us live our lives by working, we must have a job if we want to live a better life. Because we can’t live without work, we can’t stop working.

But for those who want a better life, they need more resources and better treatment to survive.

This is the relationship between civilization and survival is always opposite. For existence is existence, and civilization is civilization.

From survival to civilization, it needs a change of thinking mode.

The human being has changed from a living state of drunkenness to a civilized society. In this process, it needs a way of thinking to change from “material” to “spirit”.

There is a book called “A Brief History of Human Beings”, in which the author Euval Herali divides human history into five eras: the agricultural age, the industrial age, the information age, the intelligent age and the space age. In these five ages, human beings developed from hunting to agriculture, from simple manual labor to complex industrial production, from simple information exchange to information network.

The mode of human thinking has also changed from “material” to “spiritual”. Human beings began to have a “self” consciousness, began to consciously think about their existence and behavior. This way of thinking is known as the “cognitive revolution.” Therefore, civilization and existence are a pair of opposite and unified relations.

In the limited life, use love to illuminate each other

In my opinion, civilization is the rule that human beings make for their own survival and development. Survival is the way people live in this world. Life in the world, it has different forms, different values, and we have to do is to love each other, let the light of life shine.

In my opinion, civilization and existence are always opposite. But only in this way can we realize the value and difficulty of life. In fact, whether civilization or survival, are the result of our own choice. I hope that we do not hesitate to face the light of life and wandering, only firmly choose it, in order to make themselves into a true sense of “people.”

Survival is always survival. Civilization is always civilization.

Civilization does not exist for the sake of existence, but for the sake of higher pursuits. If we do not survive, then we have no civilization. In civilization, we will find ourselves, find the meaning of life, find the value of life, not exist to survive.

After a person has lived long enough, he may feel lonely because he has spent most of his life in his own life. Then he will want to find another person to accompany him and take care of him. And this man may be a lover, or a brother. Some of them may be rivals or enemies. And when they get along for a long time, they will have a strong emotion, this is “love”. This is also a civilization — love of civilization.

Survival is more about survival, while civilization is more about survival.

Our society, whether it is technology or lifestyle, is based on the premise of “survival”. We do not need to have a high quality of life, but we can enjoy the convenience and comfort of technology. Without the premise of “survival”, everything we pursue would be meaningless.

Therefore, we should not oppose survival and civilization. Survival is the right of human being, and civilization is the goal of human being. There is no civilization without existence; likewise, there is no existence without civilization.

If we don’t understand the concepts of “civilization” and “survival” correctly, we may set them against each other and cause some unnecessary trouble.

In short, we should correctly understand the relationship between civilization and survival on the basis of “civilization” this concept. Only in this way can we better pursue what we should pursue.
